Hip products on Bravo’s Interior Therapy

We are loving Bravo's hit show Interior Therapy with Jeff Lewis. In episode seven Jeff and Jenni visit Cash and Kristin's home and quickly see why the home is in such disarray. The team is able to redesign the home as well as the relationship between Cash, Kristin and Kristin's mother who lives with them.

The beautiful transformation includes Gus* Moderns Annex Cabinet and Camerich's very comfortable Leman Chairs.

Gus* Modern Featured on HGTV’s Design Star!

HGTV's 6th season of Design Star is back and better than ever. In the first episode they are given the challenge to makeover the penthouse they will be living in. The bonus room is assigned to Karl and Kellie, where they will have to work as a team to develop a creative design.

Image

This challenging nook under the stairs, was a difficult architectural feature to work around. Kellie created this cozy window seat that invites you in with Gus* Modern jasper cubes in billards vert ($295 each) tucked under the seat for convienent access. Use the cubes as ottomans, extra seating, or paired together for a coffee table.

In this photo you can see the exterior of the nook with the Gus cubes and the Upcycle ottoman ( $425). The Upcycle ottoman is made out of recycled coffee bean bags. Each one is unique and you never know what print you will receive. We just received these and they sure look cool on the showroom floor.

factors to consider when purchasing furniture

• Measure your space Image

• Decide what you want to keep and what needs to go

• It is best to go with neutral colors for your main pieces such as your sofa or sectional. You can add color and character whenever you like by switching out pillows, accessories, artwork and wall color.

Image

• Find pieces that function well for you and your family. Example: If you are buying a sectional for a media room you do not want to choose the firmest piece, you want to choose something like the lazytime allowing you to lounge.

Image
The Lazytime by Camerich

• Use masking tape or painters tape to mark out the area you want to place the furniture. This allows you to see how the piece will really fit and work in the room.

Image Image via

• Check out a few swatches you like and look at them in the space morning, afternoon and evening. Color changes drastically with lighting conditions.

Image

• You don’t have to do everything at once, focus on one room or one piece at a time. Get the largest pieces first and form the room around it. It’s okay to spend a year transitioning the room.
• Questions to ponder about the specific pieces you are looking at
- how is the piece going to hold up over time?
-what is the warranty on it?
-How do you clean it?
-How many double rubs are there?
*The wyzenbeek is a test done to determine how many times the fabric can be “rubbed” before the fabric shows significant signs of wear. A machine holds the piece of fabric down very tightly and an abrasive material is rubbed against it. Upholstery fabric must go through this test. Once you get to 25,000 double rubs, it is considered commercial grade. The higher number, the longer the upholstery will last.

• There are not many stores that carry stock of items these days. Hip has chose to focus on having custom pieces that are ordered in the material and finish you prefer.

• Most items have many options just ask!

• Please feel free to chat with us at the store. We really are here to help and want you to truly love your pieces for years to come. We all have a keen eye for design and 2 of us even have our interior design degree. I dare you to pick are brains.

Hip is very proud to be using a new merchant service system that donates money to Project Pooch with every credit/debit card transaction. Project Pooch is a non-profit program that teaches incarcarated youth at MacLaren Youth Correctional Facility in Woodburn, Oregon to train homeless shelter dogs. The youth learn how to train, groom and care for these dogs, thus allowing a smooth transition for the pups into a permanant home. The skills learned by the youth also assist them in their transition back into the community. We are so ecstatic to be a part of this great program!

Motion table by Calligaris

Gone are the days of needing six people to help extend the dining table for entertaining. Four people to help lift and open the 300lb table and two to carry the multiple leaves out of the storage unit you had to purchase, just to have a place to keep them.

The name of this table says it all, “Motion”. The mechanism allows for quick and easy access to a completely extended table. With one quick tug on the table, the glass tops open and a contrasted wooden leaf pops up from the center. The table goes from seating six to seating eight or ten in a matter of seconds. This table has it all, Style and Function.

Avion media unit by BDI

The Avion line from BDI combines smart styling with practical audio/video component storage. This 65"-wide media center features an attractive, contemporary real wood design, and it supports most flat-panel or big-screen projection TVs. With an optional mounting bracket, you can secure your flat-panel TV above the cabinet without drilling into your wall. Remote transferable glass-panel doors elegantly show off your system while you surf through channels.

Inside the cabinet are adjustable shelves, as well as wire channels that let you neatly route your system's cables. There's even a center drawer for small accessories that you can remove to make way for more components. The media center stays well-ventilated to keep your components running cool, even with its doors closed. Hidden wheels allow you easily move the cabinet away from the wall for cleaning your system or hooking up a new component.

The avion comes in different finishes and sizes, and has optional models that accommodate its design. Choose one and you will not be disappointed.

Nicole sofa by Natuzzi

Clean lines, comfort within, numerous options; what more can you ask for? The Nicole sofa by Natuzzi is one of their models that can either be contemporary or traditional depending on the upholstery placed on it. It can be ordered in leather, fabric, or micro-fiber and there are many wood options for the legs.

The Nicole can be ordered as a sofa, loveseat, chair, and finally as a small sectional.

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition

This summer, Hip was honored to participate in ABC's Extreme Makeover Home Edition show. The beautiful contemporary home was built by Portland based Legend Homes.

Hip donated most of the furniture that went into the Extreme Oregon home. Since there isn’t much of a time line, it made this a large task, one that we weren’t sure we were going to be able to do. Luckily the designers picked most of the product from stock, but there were items that needed to be ordered. With most of our products manufactured overseas, it made the thought of ordering, a scary one. Once our suppliers and shippers knew what we were doing, they all wanted to help. They did everything they could to get product to us, in time for the reveal.

Once all of the products arrived, it was time for the move-in. We loaded everything into our delivery truck, van and wagon and made the drive to Corvallis. Once on site, it is like nothing you have ever seen. A sea of blue shirted volunteers, doing whatever they could, whenever they could, to get the house done for the next day reveal. It was also amazing to see the amount of spectators that couldn’t be volunteers, standing around in 100 degree weather, giving their support.

The Byers look like your typical American family: a hard-working dad (Rob), a doting mom (Rachel), two rowdy boys (Chris and Joe) and a sassy little sister (Jenessa, or “Boey,” as she is called). But in January 2006, Boey, now eight, was diagnosed with a very rare, aggressive childhood cancer called Rhabdomyosarcoma which has a 70% survival rate. Not ones to be defeated, this loving, spirited family banded together for the fight of their lives. Not only has “little warrior” Boey (another nickname) endured nearly a year of chemotherapy and radiation, she has also been outspoken about combating cancer. In June, in between stays at the Children’s Cancer Center at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, Boey asked Oregon Senator Ron Wyden to cosponsor the Conquer Childhood Cancer Act.

Though the brave Byers are admirably united in rallying around Boey and advocating for progress in pediatric cancer treatment, her medical bills have left them broke. The family’s old, fixer-upper house that Rob planned to transform into their dream home remains in disrepair and, even worse, is dangerous to Boey’s fragile immune system. Asbestos has been removed from the house, but it still contains toxic mold, a faulty electrical system, dry rot, an unstable foundation and broken windows. Brother Joe, who has Asperger Syndrome (a form of autism), suffers asthma attacks triggered by the home’s toxins—which also requires medical treatment. Rachel forbids her children access to hazardous parts of the house.

Updated information: Unfortunately Boey lost her battle with Cancer on Friday, December 28th, 2007. Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Byers Family during this difficult time.
